Your Family's Story

family-tree3.jpg

"Sixty percent of Americans (183 million) have ancestors who lived in America during the Revolutionary War," according to Ancestry.com, the world's largest online family history resource.

Our volunteer Genealogists will be available to help you discover your own family history and learn more about how to research your family tree! Genealogists are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays. You may not be able to connect your family to the American Revolution, but with a little investigation, you could learn a fascinating story!

Getting Started with Family History: Start with these simple steps and resources!

1. Start at Home

Talk to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives. Ask questions like:

Where were you born?

Where did your parents and grandparents live?

What family stories have been passed down?

Do you have old photographs, letters, Bibles, or documents?

2. Build a Simple Family Tree

Write down what you know and begin connecting family members. Even a small family tree is a great start!

3. Visit Local Resources

Your local public library

County courthouse

Historical societies and museums

Genealogy societies in your community

4. Preserve What You Find

Label old photographs.

Record family stories.

Save copies of important documents.

Share your discoveries with family members.

Remember: Every family has a story worth telling. The next great discovery in your family history could be waiting in an old photo album, a family Bible, or a conversation with a grandparent!
